Walled Garden days
We will be working in the Walled Garden this Thursday (16th June) 6 – 8pm and this coming Sunday, as usual, 11am – 1pm. Hope to see you all there!
Energyshare bid: please support!
The final extended deadline for getting support for our Energyshare bid is 30th June. Energyshare will select groups to go forward from those with the most supporters.
If we’re successful our bid will benefit Alice Cross Centre, Meadow Centre, TAAG Centre, Victoria Hall and Shaldon Methodist Church. Electrician David Onslow, of Shaldon, has assessed these and other sites for us: these five sites offer the potential to make up to 40% savings in electricity-use is some areas.
We now have nearly 50 supporters. There are over 30 groups with more bids than us, so we still have a lot of work to do in the next few days. Please do everything you can to enlist supporters – these could include your friends, relatives and colleagues. If you know people who use Facebook or Twitter, please ask them to help.
Details of how to vote are here: https://teigntransition.org.uk/energy/energyshare/

Money as Debt: review of screening on Friday 10th June
We had an excellent turnout of about 40 people to the last in our Film into Action screenings. The screening of Money as Debt sparked interesting questions and discussion, which led into suggestions of further actions. We plan to arrange another meeting in about a month’s time to discuss these ideas, including the possibility of working with local traders and exploring interest in a LETS scheme. Please check this website for further details, or join our free membership by emailing info@teigntransition.org.uk so that you can receive updates on all our Transition activities.
Permaculture course cancelled
Sadly, due to the bad weather conditions, we’ve decided to cancel the Bite-sized Permaculture course due to take place in the Walled Garden today (Sunday 12th June).
The good news is that we’ve already arranged a replacement date which is Sunday 10th July. We’ll make further details available closer to the day.
Free screening of Money as Debt: Friday 10th June
Everybody loves money, wants it, needs it and depends upon it. But lots of us don’t really understand the basics of money. What is money and where does it really come from? Why do banks have so much money, while countries and individuals have so much debt?
We’re screening Money as Debt for the last in our Film into Action season. This short film uncovers myths and facts regarding money’s history. It covers the background to the banking system, the problems caused by our debt-based money system, and it looks at some sustainable alternatives.
We’ve invited a small group of guests with expertise in finance and experience of alternative trading schemes and of supporting individuals in debt, who are willing to answer questions about money. Guests include Fraser Durham of Anahat Energy , who spent ten years in banking advising global investment funds, and Robin Currie of Barchester Green Investment.
Please join us at TAAG’s Arts & Community Centre, Northumberland Place on Friday 10th June, starting at 7.30pm. Entry is free; donations welcome. Refreshments will be available for a small charge. For further details call Mike on 07877 797271.
Funded through a ‘Making it happen’ grant from Teignbridge Strategic Partnership and with support from Teignmouth Film Society.

Sunday 12 June 10am – 1pm: bite-sized permaculture in the Walled Garden
Join us for an introduction to permaculture gardening in Eastcliff’s walled garden:
Why? The dry weather is predicted to continue and we will need to find ways to accommodate this within our gardening. This event will give us some useful ideas.
What’s involved? Jane from HogCo will give a short presentation of how a few of the principles of permaculture can be applied within a horticultural setting. It will be followed by practical application within our walled garden.
What to bring? Sun hat and water, plus sturdy shoes and gardening gloves. A trowel would be useful, also a watering can.
And what should I carry in my other hand? If you have some card, grass cuttings, spoiled straw, and a few newspapers that you could bring along, it would be good.
Cost? There is a small charge of £2 per person to cover this event including refreshment (drink and cake). No need to book – please just turn up!
Further details? Call Fran on 770318.
