Supporting 10:10:10
10:10:10 is aiming to be the biggest ever day of positive action on climate change, on Sunday 10 October, 2010. Across the world, thousands of people will take simple steps to reduce carbon emissions: from tree-planting in Croatia and Russia, to families eating low-carbon Sunday meals together in the UK, it is hoped this will be an inspirational day. The organisers would like us to mark 10:10:10 with a low-carbon meal, do something to our home to make it more energy-efficient, or try something else: for lots of ideas see: http://www.1010global.org/101010/inspiration

Review of Earth Hour, Saturday 27 March 2010
Local establishments intending to join in included the Colosseum, Owl and the Pussycat, Decks, the Bay Hotel, Trade Winds, Naz, and the Courtenay. This event received good press interest, with a preview in Friday’s Teignmouth Post, and a photographer from the Herald Express in attendance at the Bay Hotel for a review due later this week.
Bay Hotel guests and members of public in the bar were interested to hear about Earth Hour while we lit dozens of tea-light candles. Promptly at 8.30pm barman Jason switched off lighting in public areas. All guests responded positively to the event, and at 9.30pm when Jason offered to put lights back on, several people requested that the bar could remain in candle light. In the Hotel’s lounge bar, a group were holding a private birthday party for a woman from Tasmania. She was delighted that we were observing Earth Hour: the event started in Australia and she hadn’t expected it to have reached Teignmouth! We shared our candles and she was enthusiastic about having her party in the dark.
We support Earth Hour 2010, Saturday 27 March
Earth Hour is an international event. It offers a chance to stand up, get involved and help to lead the way towards a sustainable future. People across the world will turn off lights and join in this celebration of our planet. In previous years landmarks including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Toronto’s CN Tower, San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, and Rome’s Colosseum have all stood in darkness as symbols of hope.
We have signed up to Earth Hour 2010 and are encouraging people to join us. Please turn off some lights for one hour, Earth Hour, 8.30pm, Saturday 27 March. We’ve also invited pubs and restaurants across our area to switch off and help put Teignmouth on the Earth Hour map.
