Representing Transition at cycle race events, September

A key element of Transition is developing sustainable transport, so we’ve arranged to have a stand on Teignmouth’s Den on Tuesday 14th September during the Tour of Britain cycle race. We did a similar activity for the Tour Ride event on 5th September. At both, we hope to raise awareness of Transition themes, hand out information leaflets and meet people.

Devon Car Free Day: Wed 22nd Sept

Devon County Council (DCC) is working with Plymouth City Council and Torbay Council to encourage residents to leave their cars at home and try using a different, greener form of travel on Wednesday September 22nd.  The day, coordinated by DCC’s TravelWise campaign is in support of International Car Free Day.

See http://www.devon.gov.uk/devoncarfreeday

The aim of the day is to get people to leave their cars at home, explore other options for getting to work or school and to reduce their carbon footprint.

DCC will be offering sponsored prizes for the winners of the ‘best team’ effort, and ‘the most creative way of travelling using green/sustainable transport’. People have been very creative in previous years and have used sedan chairs, horse and carts, tandems and rowing boats, for example.
