Dawlish Transition film night launch

A group of Dawlish residents, Dawlish business people and a local councillor are set to lead the way on the launch of Dawlish Transition with a free film night on Thursday 24th February, 7-9 pm, Red Rock Centre, Sandy Lane, Dawlish.

The group will be showing  films that explain the issues we face, how we can take action, and afterwards a Q&A session event to enable people to find out more about getting involved and taking this to the next level.

Films showing are Power of the Community and Message in the Waves, with guest speakers:  Antony Turner,  Carbon Sense Foundation & Teign Estuary Transition, and Ben Bryant, Teignbridge Recycling Officer (Dawlish Bag Campaign).

Film into Action competition: prize winners

We screened AVATAR as the first in our Film into Action season, and set a competition for people attending.

Congratulations to Cath, John and Mike for creating the winning response to our Avatar competition. The questions were If you were Jake and returned to Earth after living on Pandora, 1) what would you most want to change? And 2) how would you do this?

Cath, John and Mike’s answers were 1) “People’s attitude that everything can be bought for a price” and 2) “Start at the bottom through educating kids who will be the future”. Their prize is a voucher for kayak-hire kindly donated by SeaSports Southwest.

There will be further screenings later this year.

Free screening of AVATAR: Saturday 20th November

Avatar poster

We’re screening AVATAR (PG-13) as part of our new Film into Action season.

Why aren’t we showing any of the usual dull documentaries?  Come along and see AVATAR (again) and find out why this Hollywood blockbuster is relevant to our daily lives and the Transition Movement.

Please join us at Teignmouth Community College on Saturday 20th November, starting at 1.30pm. Entry is free; donations welcome. If you’d like to print out a copy of our poster to display, a copy is available here.

Funded through a ‘Making it happen’ grant from Teignbridge Strategic Partnership and with support from Teignmouth Film Society.  We are also grateful for help from SeaSports Southwest and Sheila Tibbs for donating prizes.

Energy Saving Week

The 25 – 31 October 2010 marks the 14th Energy Saving Week – organised by The Energy Saving Trust, a non-profit organisation that provides free and impartial advice on how to stop wasting energy.

To take control and start cutting your energy use at home and in how you travel, take a look at the Energy Saving Trust web site.

Supporting 10:10:10

10:10:10 is aiming to be the biggest ever day of positive action on climate change, on Sunday 10 October, 2010. Across the world, thousands of people will take simple steps to reduce carbon emissions: from tree-planting in Croatia and Russia, to families eating low-carbon Sunday meals together in the UK, it is hoped this will be an inspirational day. The organisers would like us to mark 10:10:10 with a low-carbon meal, do something to our home to make it more energy-efficient, or try something else: for lots of ideas see: http://www.1010global.org/101010/inspiration

How to seal a bag and make it air-tight

Cut up a disposable water bottle and keep the neck and top, as in photo.
Insert the plastic bag through the neck and screw the top to seal.
