Saturday 26th March: social event celebrated Earth Hour
Members and friends of Teign Estuary Transition Group gathered on Saturday 26th March to celebrate Earth Hour 2011. This is an annual global event when people across the world turn off lights for one hour between 8.30 – 9.30 pm to celebrate the planet together and raise awareness of climate change. Our thanks to Neil Johns who supported the event by opening the Oystercatcher’s Cafe in Teignmouth, where members’ food was shared and eaten by candle-light.
Energy-use is one area that the Transition Group focuses on – the challenge after Earth Hour is to continue seeking ways of making a difference. The Group’s next energy-meeting is at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 13th April in the King’s Arms, Teignmouth: all welcome.

Earth Hour is an international event which offers us each a chance to get involved and help lead the way towards a sustainable future. People across the world will turn off lights and join in this celebration of our planet – in previous years landmarks including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Toronto’s CN Tower, San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, and Rome’s Colosseum have all stood in darkness as symbols of hope.
