Earth Hour 2011, Saturday 26 March
We have signed up to Earth Hour 2011 and are encouraging people to join us. Please help put Teignmouth on the Earth Hour map – turn off some lights and do something more interesting instead, for one hour, Earth Hour, 8.30pm, Saturday 26 March.
Earth Hour is an international event which offers us each a chance to get involved and help lead the way towards a sustainable future. People across the world will turn off lights and join in this celebration of our planet – in previous years landmarks including the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Toronto’s CN Tower, San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, and Rome’s Colosseum have all stood in darkness as symbols of hope.
For more details about Earth Hour, and to register that you intend to join in, see: http://earthhour.wwf.org.uk/about_earth_hour/aboutearthhour/

Congratulations to Cath, John and Mike for creating the winning response to our Avatar competition. The questions were If you were Jake and returned to Earth after living on Pandora, 1) what would you most want to change? And 2) how would you do this?
Cath, John and Mike’s answers were 1) “People’s attitude that everything can be bought for a price” and 2) “Start at the bottom through educating kids who will be the future”. Their prize is a voucher for kayak-hire kindly donated by SeaSports Southwest.
There will be further screenings later this year.

Supporting 10:10:10
10:10:10 is aiming to be the biggest ever day of positive action on climate change, on Sunday 10 October, 2010. Across the world, thousands of people will take simple steps to reduce carbon emissions: from tree-planting in Croatia and Russia, to families eating low-carbon Sunday meals together in the UK, it is hoped this will be an inspirational day. The organisers would like us to mark 10:10:10 with a low-carbon meal, do something to our home to make it more energy-efficient, or try something else: for lots of ideas see: http://www.1010global.org/101010/inspiration
