EnergyShare Funding Bid
What is the bid about?
£500,000 is available for community projects working to increase energy-efficiency locally. This is being provided through a company called EnergyShare who are working with British Gas and River Cottage to fund energy-saving projects that have support from across their communities. The deadline for the first round of bidding was 30th June. Over 900 groups applied; 100 groups including ours have been asked to submit a detailed application by 30th September.
Our bid
We want to make simple improvements to lighting in buildings used by community organisations in Teignmouth and Shaldon. Work would include upgrading to modern energy-efficient light fittings, and/or installing sensors to control use when lights aren’t needed. The electrician working with us on this project, who lives in Shaldon, visited several sites for us and confirmed that we can make big savings in several centres.
Of these, TAAG, Meadow Centre and Alice Cross Centre each chose to work with us to progress the bid. These simple actions will cost nothing for the organisations themselves; in fact they’ll save money for each organisation, and we hope they will provide an example to inspire further local energy-saving actions.
In terms of supporters, we are proud that our bid came 45 nationally, out of 936 groups. We have therefore got through the first round and are now working on the detailed application stage.
